Amara Barnes is from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She graduated from East Carolina University with her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography in May of 2026. She has studied abroad in Nairobi, Kenya, where she also taught various styles of dance at Dance Center Kenya and for the Artist for Africa outreach program. While in Kenya, she trained in styles including afro dance hall, Jamaican dance hall, and Afropop. Amara has also studied abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where she trained at Henny Jurriëns studio, learning repertoire and taking ballet, contemporary, gaga, and modern classes. She enjoys seeing the world through dance and taking every opportunity to dance. In her time studying at East Carolina University, she has choreographed and performed in many shows, including Dancing in the Street: A Celebration of Motown and Spring Dance 2026.
